Which One Suits Best? Eyes, Face and Hair
This project comprises three disparate series: Eyes, Face, and Hair, each of which boldly subverts the beauty industry's widely promoted myth that, to embellish their beauty and modify their face’s appearance, women should enhance their eyes and eyebrow shape, use facial makeup and style their hair to suit their face shape.
The promotion of this pervasive myth, designed to increase the commercialisation and profits of the beauty industry, is perpetuated through a plethora of advertising, social media, AI-generated images, and beauty influencers that all encourage women to engage in this beauty fantasy. Vicky Hodgson subverts this beauty myth by performing with paper bag masks and geometric shapes on movable sticks, which serve as an analogy to the beauty industry's obsession with shape. Her unique and uncanny images question the absurd beauty convention that subordinates women to this patriarchal myth.
